TEN YEARS IN THE MAKING
Ten years in the making, Korean brand, Reike Nen brings its motto ‘Contemporary Refinement’ to the forefront of its poignant designs. Minimalism is expressed with each stroke of the designer’s hand as emerging products evoke an inescapable classicism. Decisively feminine the narrow lines, clear color blocking, and mis-matching paired shoes render the brand’s approach to accessories unconventional, yet somehow timeless.
ALL IN THE NAME
The name ‘Reike Nen’ is a derivative of designer, Yoon Hongmi’s, name and signifies fluidity in nationality, sex, and age. This fluidity also describes the brand’s approach to materials, as it combines the organic with the synthetic to produce what they define as ‘Contemporary Refinement’. Our best understanding of this lies in that contemporary represents emerging technologies, trends, tools, and materials, while the refinement is the pulling in and polishing of these elements into a format that is timeless and elegant. A recent collection, ‘20 PF Face to Face’, exemplifies this fluidity through a pair of knotted, pointed toe sandals, combining sheep leather, pig leather, latex, and rubber. The end result is elongating, ultra-feminine, sandals with a touch of bizarre that fits for pushing boundaries with accessories – in the right way.
THE ‘ODD PAIR’
The ‘Odd Pair’ sandals are nothing short of exquisite in their lack of convention. The miss-matching pair of sandals feature a left shoe different from the right with criss crossing straps over the toes at different angles. The result is subtle, yet brings a level of fine detail that transforms their design from one that is fairly standard to one of significant value and collectability. The ‘Odd Pair’ of sandals is unlike any other.
LEGS FOR DAYS
As many of Reike Nen’s sandals possess a longer, pointed toe, they elongate the foot to showcase legs that go on for days. The narrow criss-crossing straps provide enough support, while seeming to disappear, making the foot appear to ‘hover’ over the shoe for a look that is natural, feminine, and playful.
